Sauna experience in Germany (c;

Hei there,

I went to a sauna park with Maren in Laatzen (www.aqualaatzium.de) and had a great deal of...relaxation! It was really great. This park has mhh about 10 Saunas and some steam baths, massages, bars, enough rooms and huts to sleep and read..haaahhh wonderful!
And as you can see in all the next pictures it is either rather finnish-looking or well, emphazising the finnish hertiage (c; Was funny how much the have trimmed it in the Lapland-style.

These wodden poro...

In general Sauna is a lot more celebrated in Germany because less natural and normal than in Finland. We've been in the sauna 4-5 times, had naps of mhh 20 min- 1 hour in between and just relaxed. I guess we were there for more than 6 hours! In Finland it mostly seems like the extension of taking a shower (my impression..). So, there was a lot of lyödä löylyä and vastoja with many different things -eucalyptus, cirtus, fennel, anis etc.... With ice and grapfruits and of course koivu branches, aahhh nice! And in that suna park, they have all sorts of celebrations- yesterday was kaamos with all the "typical" (?) Lapish food fromt he laavu grill music and mhh other finnish stuff..

Well, see for yourself (c;

Canteen food in Wernigerode

I just met an old friend for lunch, who also studies here in Wernigerode and for old times' sake, we went to the cafeteria/Canteen for food.

THAT was the offer:

I mean, the way they display is very "disadvantageous" and you can actually get potatoes, rice or/and vegetable with it. But you have to pay for it all. For the salad, for drinks, for vegetables...

I took the "Hefeknödel" on the very right side, because I know from experience that the meat isn't the best and the sauce of the Spaghettis is mostly glutamate and starch!! Mhhh, the sauce was some cherry. Very weird.

BUt anyway, I paid 2,00€ it!! Who either knows my "blog report" on the cafeteria food in Finland OR actually had the (mostly) pleasure to eat in Porvoo, Point house know what an impudence that is!

And then it was all foggy, misty and icy today. At least 5 mm ice on EVERYTHING. Most relevant for me: on cars and sidewalks. Strange how that never happens at home. And because it's so hilly here, it was strange how the car SLIDED into the parking space...hhahaaa realtively uncontrolled...mhhhh

Normally, a proper meal here (incl. a salad and a roll you pay for) would cost around 3,50-4,00 . And the cheapest Pizza around is maybe 4,50...And then "they" (who?) wonder why we either are unhealthy or jsut don't eat here at the university.

P.S.: I just saw this picture of me in Lapland lighting the firplace in Lapland in Dec. 2007. It's jsut the same "I made fire" story as now with this gas oven at Katharina's...

Spieleabend- Peli ilta - game night - spelkväll

I really had a lot of fun yesterday with my German friends, making a lasagne and having some fun playing a movie quiz game. We ALL SUCKED. Serisouly, the only reason why we proceeded in the game was because you could move your pawn forward as mucha s the dices showed even if you answered wronlgy. All in a ll a strange game, with a dvd with movie clips and stuff. Interactive. Scene-it was the name and the movies, directors (yes, the ones you never pay attention to) and actors were from 1940-2002 or so and mhh all in all before our times.

The funniest was that the hardest question was answered correctly by accident by the most unknwoing person of our round. Which actress first got 1 Mio dollars for a role in a movie! ELisabeth Taylor as Cleopatra...hahaaa mhhh. See if I will ever have such a question when I win the 1 Mio € in this who wants to be a millionaire show- THEN I have actually a chance to win..welllll in my dreams...

Anyway, good fun and finally being able to share my Finland experiences with my friends and hear all the news about viruses in dead dog's spinal cord and other stories. Just catching up (c; N-I-C-E

I didn't really ask for persmission form them, but here are some picutres ... One of them was me fighting with a gas oven. Stupid thing...

Daily life

Hei there,

right now my life isn't so really very exiting -maths, swimming, household stuff, going to university every now and then to get into the groove and some communication with friends...But looking closer, I actually FOUND some enjoyment in maths. I'm not quite mastering it but several hours of Gauss elminiation and algrithms and exponential equations with n unknown variables blablaaaa - you have to become friends.
Turn an enemy into a friend... or how was it?

That's what I do. Then I have funny moment in the swimming hall with old people who do funny things or are just being really old and scare me. Or when elderly men (now I mean 50+x) think the whole pool belongs to them and crash into you, when you're swimming on the back- me, I mean when I am straightly (oriented on the ceiling) swim slowly on my back and he can seeeee me. He crashed into me twice. The first time I excused but then.. I guess, I'll be just like that when I'm old. Demanding respect and spaaaace ?!?????????!

These are the "great" events right now (c; BUt also meeting really old friends from Kindergarten that I haven't seen in a while IS really nice. I've been really good friends with her back then for 5 years and we only meet in church on christmas and then maybe once more a year. But we had some coffee time together and basically could close all the gaps there. REALLY nice!! And seeing my grandparents moe often is really nice too. I try to see them a lot -for all selfish reasons- I don't want to feel like a bad grand daughter for not being there a lot, get some good old food, sometimes a little extra money, and looooove....all the nice things (c;

Since my mom is still in rehab during the week (for her operated arm!) there's household stuff to do..wich is fine normally and my father does a lot as well. But it's a whole big house (with far too much stuff I you ask me) after all and the cooking..But with the right equipment and a lot of motivation - which I both don't have...

But now that the learning feels a bit better, I meet friends today, go to a huge Saunapark next week, drive to Hamburg to a friend's housewarming party and so on!! We're getting there (((c;

I miss you though. Strangely, although we haven't seen much of each other. I miss Finland; being a bit more myself, the cold winter and I'd like to share some things with you. Sharing is caring and so on (c;

But "I'll be back" (NO, I don't have an Austrian accent and not that many muscles)

Wernigerode - visiting my university town....for classes

As I mentioned, I thought it is a good idea to go to some classes to my university to get back in the "groove" again...the one I never had...

And it wasn't really sucha good idea because all these curious young students have been enthusiastically studying maths and investment etc. for this whole semester and I have JUST started to get backl to it again. I found myself sitting in calss and panicing a little. I could follow but until I will master that stuff (NOT again!) it might take a little more effort than I thought at some point...I KNEW it but now i FEEl it..

But meeting some friends and then walking throught the city made up for some stuff. Down there, I've put some pictures of our woinderful university campus, the old town, the castle above the town and let's see what I find (c;

Thesis development

Ahh, and good news on the thesis front. I'm at 33 pages and there is only beginning, end and all the formatting and correcting to do!

Thanks for all the encouragement and help so far. After I'm done with this I can do ANYYYYTHIIINGG (c;

Iceparty time in Germany

Heihoo,

since I'm in Germany now and away from Suomi for now, the Blog will change "sides" and switch to English to keep "the Finns" updated....

..It's cold here, colder than it was in Finland. But less comfortable cause it's kinda humiiid )c;

Anyways, me and my friend Ursula went ice-skating on some local lake-area with loads of canals, Spreewaldseen. Although they said in the radio that the lakes were (officially) opened 2 years ago, to me it seems like 10 and I was happy like "Schneekönig" to go iceskating outside public halls!! In the newaspapers it said that thousands of people were on the ice that weekend! There was a tractor-wagon selling Bratwurst and Glühwein (Glögi) and music.....haaachh how great...

The Maschsee, which is the city-lake in Hannover also hadan ice-party. There were, according to the newspaper, 150.000 on the ice during the whole weekend -wohooo

Anyways, I will leave some more news here during the next couple of weeks. I will be back in Finland only in the end of helmikuu )c:

This is education folks, about my home, Heimat, family and friends (c;

P.S.: The blister I got from ice-skating is not good for everyone to see..pretty yak!

Take care

Schon wieder in Deutschland

Hei Leute,
